One of the most fascinating aspects of recycling is to transform the simplest or useless material into a new form and a new use. I loved this idea of Eleanna Kotsikou of doing something with toilet paper rolls. So I decided to share it with you. It is an easy and fun project with an impressive final result !!!
- About 20 empty rolls of toilet paper.
- Glue or hot glue gun.
- Black paint.
- Black acrylic paint.
- Rule to measure.
Step 1. Preparing the toilet paper rolls.
Fold the empty rolls of toilet paper. You have to wrinkle them along two opposite edges without completely flattening the center. Repeat the folding process for all rolls, except one.
Once the rolls are folded, use the ruler to mark both folded edges at 2.1 cm intervals. This will divide the roll into five equal parts.
Cut the rolls by the marks.
The final result will be to have about 100 petal-shaped strips. It depends on how many you want to use to create the lamp.
The petals should be sharp at the edges with the curved center, as can be seen in the image. It is also necessary to cut an additional strip of the same width (2.1 cm) from the paper roll that we have saved.
Step 2. Paste and shape the lamp.
Now, place the container upside down on the work surface. We will use the container as a base; The shape of the cup will help you shape the lamp.
The starting point is to form a flower on the top of the cup.
Now at the top of the lamp you already have the flower shape. Well done!
Start by gluing more petal-shaped strips to the design. You just have to add the strips between two existing ones. It is not necessary to follow a precise pattern. Keep pasting pieces and filling in the gaps to form a beautiful design. You can even add two petals between two already existing ones.
Secure everything with clothespins until they are well glued. Consider the shape of the cup, so we will get the curved shape.
Add petals to finish the lamp design. The bottom edge does not have to form a straight line. On the contrary, the more asymmetric it is, the more original the design will be. So improvise and when you are satisfied with the result, let it dry. If you have used the hot glue gun, clean the lamp by removing excess glue.
When the lamp is dry, it is ready to be painted. A black or metallic color is the one that works best for this project, but it is your decision, you can choose.
Use the brush and some black paint to correct any stains or corners that have not yet taken the color, so we will have a perfect final result.
The lamp is now ready to hang. To do this, pass the cable through the central hole of the screen before installing it on the ceiling. You can use some transparent fishing wire or wire to attach it to the cable. Place it slightly higher to avoid direct contact with heat. Remember to use an LED bulb so that its consumption is very small! In addition to avoiding possible problems with heat.
And ready, you have a beautiful recycled lamp ready to use!
